On May 4, 2018, in Astana at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an expert round table was held on the topic "Astana Economic Forum: Global Challenges and Kazakhstan in the 21st Century."

The roundtable was attended by representatives of leading domestic centers for the study of economic development trends.

Opening the event, moderator of the round table, director of KazISS under the President, Zarema Shaukenova noted that "Kazakhstan is in the mainstream of world processes. And today we simply do not have time to develop and adapt slowly. Therefore, a model of accelerated modernization has been adopted."

"The Head of State constantly raises big agendas, which should lead the country to a high level of development. The goal of Kazakhstan's accession to the world’s 30 developed countries, the Five Institutional Reforms, a large-scale Modernization 3.0, New Opportunities under the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Modernization of Public Consciousness, the Social Initiatives are Kazakhstan's answers to global challenges driven by the breakthrough in innovative development, implementation of bold institutional reforms and integration with the world," Z. Shaukenova noted.

GVA Kazakhstan partner, Bulat Stolyarov, showed the presentation on the updated format of the forthcoming Forum. He spoke in detail about the program of the Forum, the main tracks, about well-known guests and participants of the congress in the world community.

"The XI Astana Economic Forum is to be held under the aegis of global changes. Forming the Forum’s program, we are trying to consider the key mega-trends of the planet's development through the optics of Kazakhstan's reality, we will try to land on the soil of Kazakhstan and give answers to questions about clarifying the country's development plan," B. Stolyarov said.

At the same time, Bulat Stolyarov said that it was easy "to gather this congress, as Kazakhstan "sounds" in the world with its ideas, mega-projects, including Expo-2017, spiritual modernization, Astana's anniversary, Astana Center, etc.”

During the round table, a constructive dialogue was held on issues of technological renewal and digitalization, new paradigms of civil society, economic growth of Kazakhstan, and the social dimension of the future of Greater Eurasia.

According to the deputy director of KazISS under the President of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Political Sciences, Sanat Kushkumbayev, the Astana Economic Forum has always been and remains a synchronizing tool, striving to become a bridge between national economic policy and the global one. The political scientist is convinced that this year the final discussions of the Forum will assist the Kazakhstani experts and the Government in the preparation of the national development strategy for 2019-2020 and the outlook for the future.

As Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC Economic Research Institute, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Shaharbanu Zhakupova said, the AEF has become a unique platform for checking whether we are heading in the right direction.

Among the global challenges, outlined in the agenda of the Forum, the speaker highlighted the Digital World trend. All reforms in our country today are aimed at adapting to these new challenges in the medium term, the expert believes.

In his speech, the chief researcher at KazISS under the President, Doctor of Economics, Vyacheslav Dodonov, tried to respond to a question about whether the slowdown in the world economy was the trend or an anomaly.
